You must use at least two patient identifiers (neither to be the patient’s room number) before administering medications or blood products, taking blood samples, performing clinical testing, or providing any other treatments or procedures. Encourage the patient’s active participation. Always use the full name and medical record number for patient identification. All patients must wear a patient identification band.
