Dr. Sophia Lal

- Sports Injuries (including major muscles and joints)
- Injury to muscles, tendons, ligaments
- Stress fractures
- Osteoarthritis
- Issues related to the female athlete, especially eating disorders, menstrual problems and poor bone health in relation to sports
- Musculoskeletal pelvic floor pain
Dr. Lal recently joined the Orthopaedic Staff at UAB Highlands as a non-surgical Sports Medicine Specialist. This clinic is now able to offer a unique combination of both surgical and non-surgical specialists all located in one clinic providing a multidisciplinary environment second to none.
Dr. Lal completed medical school at The University of North Texas Health Science Center, in Fort Worth, Texas, her residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and finally a Sports Medicine Fellowship from the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Lal enjoys treating a wide variety of orthopaedic type injuries that result in sprains and strains that often occur during our day to day life using various forms of therapy and possible injections. She also has a special interest in Sports Medicine and her area of research interest is the female athlete.
The treatment goal for her patients is a timely safe return to the highest level of function!
