UAB Hospital has an International Medical Service office which provides translation services to UAB Hospital patients that do not speak English. For in-patients a Cryacom phone can be set up at the patients' bedside so the treatment team can communicate to the patient in any language. UAB Hospital can also provide personal translation services for those patients that speak Spanish or Chinese. International Medical Services have contracts with the Sparks clinic, the Kirklin Clinic' and UAB Hospital. Any clinics in any of these facilities need to fax an interpreter request form to the International Medical Service office to request an interpreter*. 24-hour advanced notice on non-emergencies is recommended. For service after hours, holidays and weekends, page beeper number 5593 for the interpreter on call.
UAB Highlands utilizes the Cryacom phone system for inpatient and outpatient translation. This system provides translation for patients of any language. It may be helpful to notify the area you are going to be visiting of your need for this service to assure availability.
The Kirklin Clinic
To ensure that all patients have the ability to comminicate effectively with their healthcare providers TCK offers translation and interpretation services. To request these services you may send an email with the patient's name and medical record number, appointment date and time, the clinic and physicians name where the patient will be seen and the name and contact number for the person making the request to:

You may also leave a message at 205-801-8623 and a patient representative will confirm the message has been recieved and an interpreter has been scheduled. If you do not get a confirmation with in 24 hours contact the office back at 205-801-8623.
Spanish interpreters offer the assistance of reminding patient's of their appointments. If you would like to utilize this service please include a contact number for the patient in your initial request.
