Department of Emergency Medicine Chair Janyce M. Sanford, MD, announces the appointment of Jarred J. Thomas, MD, as assistant professor of emergency medicine and director of the future Emergency Department Chest Pain Evaluation Unit.

Dr. Thomas graduated from the University of South Alabama (USA) College of Medicine and completed an internship in the Department of Internal Medicine at the USA Medical Center. He completed his residency at UAB in the Department of Emergency Medicine, serving as chief resident from 2005 to 2006. Dr. Thomas returns to UAB after a cardiovascular emergencies fellowship at the University of Virginia.

His interests include acute coronary syndromes, myocardial infarction, and risk stratification. Dr. Thomas also has an interest in resident education, and will be serving as assistant program director in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
