David Hoidal, UAB Health System CEO, announces the appointment of Cynthia G. Brumfield, MD, MSHA, as UAB Hospital’s Chief of Staff, effective March 1, 2006. Dr. Brumfield is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and has been Medical Director of the University Obstetrical Service for 15 years. Dr. Brumfield has been a member of the UAB faculty since 1984.
Hoidal notes Dr. Brumfield has served the organization in multiple leadership, clinical, and research capacities. She has served as chair of the UABHS Clinical Council since 2000 and as a member of the Credentials Committee and the Professional Liability Trust Fund Policy Committee and Claims Review Subcommittee. She has served on the UAB Hospital Nutrition Committee, Medical Records Committee, and the Board of Censors for the Jefferson County Medical Society.
Dr. Brumfield received her MD degree from the University of Mississippi, Jackson, and completed an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at the University of Florida, Gainesville, where she was administrative chief resident. She completed a Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at UAB in 1984 and then a Master of Science in Health Administration degree at the UAB School of Health-Related Professions in 2002.
She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medial Society; a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology; an elected senior member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine; and a member of many other national and local medical organizations, as well as the American College of Healthcare Executives.
She is a national oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a peer reviewer for Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Journal of Maternal-Fetal Health, American Journal of Managed Care, and more. She has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and been listed in Best Doctors in America since 1995.
