At Your Fingertips: New library gives easy access to accurate information

TKC Resource Library

Patients who walk out of a physician’s office with a new diagnosis often want more information—immediately—and their doctors want to make sure that information comes from reliable and accurate sources. The new Patient Resource Library, located in The Kirklin Clinic® in the UAB Medical Center District, fills both needs in a convenient location. The new library is easy to spot, on the second floor.

The library offers information on a wide range of diseases and health topics, with a particularly extensive collection of information about various types of cancer. Patients and their families can pick up free brochures and pamphlets; check out books, tapes and DVDs to take home; or sit in the quiet, comfortable setting to browse reference materials and medical magazines. A librarian is always there to help find information or answer questions.

There are also computers to do Internet research, each set up with helpful links so patients can easily find reputable medical sites. Information on clinical trials can be found there, too. Those who can’t make it to the library can call or e-mail to have customized information mailed to them for free.
