STAFF CAN REQUEST TO NOT PARTICIPATE!!!
Did you know that staff members have the right to request to not participate in patient care that would compromise their cultural values, ethics, or religious beliefs? Here is what you need to know about our policy entitled "Staff Request to Not Participate in Patient Care"
  • 1) When making a request, you must submit in writing to the department or unit head or to your immediate supervisor.
  • 2) You should include your name, title, department, the date, and the reason for submitting the request.
  • 3) You must continue to provide for all patient care needs until the request is approved in writing.
  • 4) If you are transferred to or hired by the Labor and Delivery department, you will be required to fill out a form specifying your willingness to participate in Induced Termination of Pregnancy.
GOT AN ETHICAL DILEMMA????
CALL THE CHIEF OF STAFF'S OFFICE
  • 1) Tell them you are in need of an ethics consult.
  • 2) The office will contact the Chief of Staff on-call who will initiate an ethics consult on your behalf.
  • 3) The team that performs the ethics consult will report its findings to you.
  • 4) These findings will be advisory in nature and will not be mandatory or a reflection of hospital policy.
  • 5) If it is after-hours or an emergency, you can contact the hospital operator and ask them to contact the chief of staff on-call by telephone.
