
The Critical Care Specialty Residency is a recently established one-year program at University Hospital. The program is designed to provide extensive experience in a variety of intensive care units. This experience will expand on skills developed during pharmacy practice residency and will build the skills and confidence necessary to provide advanced pharmacologic services in acute care situations.
Orientation (6 weeks)
Orientation provides a general overview of the departmental organization and support units and resident opportunities.
Required Rotations (24 weeks)
To fulfill the qualifications for graduation, the resident is required to complete a major research project based in critical care practice and the required training as outlined below:
- Medical Intensive Care 4 weeks
- Surgical Intensive Care 4 weeks
- Cardiology Intensive Care 4 weeks
- Neonatal Intensive Care 4 weeks
- Infectious Disease 4 weeks
Elective Rotations (16 weeks)
The resident may spend additional time in any of the above rotations as well as the following rotations:
- Trauma/Burn Critical Care
- Bone Marrow Transplant
- Operating Room/Anesthesia

The applicant must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and have completed an ASHP-accredited pharmacy practice residency. He or she must submit a completed application, recommendation letters from two members of his or her pharmacy faculty and one other individual, and an official transcript to the program director no later than January 31st. An interview is required for consideration.
