We are a 47 private room hospital, which features advanced, specialized services including an aquatic therapy pool, two fully equipped therapy gyms and a specialized gym for brain injured patients. The facility provides instant access to UAB Hospital via a crosswalk. This allows physicians and patients to link with one of the Southeast’s premiere medical facilities.

Treatment at UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center is interdisciplinary. Specialists from all areas of the UAB Health System contribute unique skills and expertise to form care teams that evaluate and treat each patient. These efforts result in a comprehensive care plan that coordinates treatment to meet each patient’s individual needs.
Patient care teams include full-time physiatrists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, psychologists, social workers, rehabilitation professionals and other health care professionals as needed. Physician care is immediately available 24 hours a day.
Family participation is the key to making recovery a positive experience, and it is a vital part of the rehabilitation process. Each patient’s family is invited to attend therapy education sessions so they will be prepared to care for the patient once they return home.
UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center is the hub of the UAB Model SCI System, emphasizing collaborative clinical research to solve the medical management and acute rehabilitation problems of individuals with SCI.

UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center is one of only 16 nationally designated Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model Systems center and is also a TBI clinical trials network center.
