HS CA: SP06 Man Sitting
Most men are aware that healthy lifestyle choices, like eating well, not smoking, and exercising regularly can greatly increase their chances of living a longer, healthier life. However, men might be surprised to learn that currently in America, 29 million men have high blood pressure, 50 million have high cholesterol and approximately 8 million men have some type of diabetes. In honor of National Men’s Health Week, Medical West would like to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury. National Men’s Health Week begins Monday, June 12th and ends on Sunday, June 18th.

Often times, men show reluctance in seeking help for physical or psychological problems or for participating in screening programs, but by identifying potentially dangerous symptoms early, one might reduce the risk for developing serious medical conditions later on in life. Heart disease, cancer, and stroke are leading causes of death in men in the United States. These diseases are largely preventable by seeking early medical advice and through lifestyle changes. Suggestions for reducing the risk of these diseases include regular doctor visits, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, and reducing fat and increasing fruits and vegetables in your diet.

Talk to the men in your life about taking these important steps to live a healthier life.

Physicians at Medical West in Bessemer are available for screenings and questions regarding men’s health. For additional information, or to schedule an appointment with a Medical West physician, call 996-WEST.
