See New Arrivals OnlineFriends and relatives no longer have to wait on the postman to see “new arrivals.” UAB Hospital now provides an online nursery that uses all-digital technologies to capture beautiful baby photos, post them to the Internet, and deliver printed photos to excited new parents.
A trained digital photo representative will visit each new mother’s room at the hospital with a state-of-the-art mobile digital imaging system. While there, mom and dad can choose their favorite photo on a full-size computer monitor. The selected image and order information is transmitted via a secured site on the Internet to That’s My Baby headquarters in suburban Atlanta later the same day. The photo is posted to the website within twenty-four hours following the receipt of the family’s order, and most printed orders are shipped within two days.
New parents choose from a wide variety of creative photos, announcements and birth-related products. They then receive their baby’s photo on the Internet at no charge. Family and friends of parents at the hospital can see the new baby after being provided a secure and private access code by the parents. They then logon to www.health.uab.edu/baby and follow directions to the Web Nursery, enter the access code and view the baby.
While viewing the baby, parents can display a greeting to visitors, and visitors can offer their written congratulations back to baby and parents. This personal messaging feature of the UAB Hospital/That’s My Baby partnership is very popular with parents and visitors to the Website.
The Online Nursery meets JCAHO (Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospital Organizations) security and privacy guidelines for putting baby photos on the Internet. Its secure access code is provided by the parents to visitors who can view only that individual baby. Other baby photo sites allow visitors to view unrelated photos randomly
