Medical West Opens Nocturnal Dialysis Center
Nocturnal Hemodialysis is a very effective treatment option to assist dialysis patients in achieving treatment goals and improve quality of life.
This innovative treatment for patients with kidney failure has been administered at various Fresenius Medical Care dialysis facilities in the U.S. for years, and is now available at Medical West, the only facility in the state of Alabama to offer this treatment option.
Nocturnal Dialysis takes place three nights per week, for eight hours per night, at the Medical West dialysis center. While traditional hemodialysis provides you with effective treatment, nocturnal hemodialysis can offer a longer, slower treatment for patients who need additional time to remove fluids and get better clearance. Dialysis is administered more gradually so that removal of toxins and excess fluids more closely mimic normal kidney function. Since patients can sleep right through treatment, many have experienced increased energy levels, improvement in the quality of their sleep, a better appetite, lower blood pressure, and need for less medication. Patients have the option of sleeping, watching television, reading, or surfing the internet while receiving treatment.
Dr. Roman Brantley of Nephrology Associates at Medical West, said "Nocturnal Dialysis is the next best thing to getting a kidney transplant. The treatment allows people to work and have a better quality of life without getting a transplant."
Dale Kittle, dialysis patient of Dr. Brantley, said "Nocturnal dialysis is so much more efficient for me. I am still able to keep my full time job, and I feel so much better in both mind and body. I would recommend it to anyone."
