Dr. C. Vernon Skoog is a graduate of the University of Alabama class of 1964. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1967 after which he completed a mixed Pediatrics-Medicine internship at UAB. He then served as Captain in the United States Army Medical Corps for two years and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. He was officer-in-charge of one of the Army's largest troop clinics at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Skoog then completed an affiliated residency at Lloyd Noland Hospital and UAB from 1970 through 1973. After ten years in the Internal Medicine Department at Lloyd Noland Hospital, he went into private practice at Bessemer Carraway Medical Center in 1984 where he has practiced internal medicine since. He treats the entire spectrum of internal medicine primary care problems in his practice.
Dr. Skoog also has considerable experience in Geriatrics as he served as the Medical Director at a local nursing home for ten years.
Dr. Skoog resides with his family in Riverchase. He and his family attend Riverchase United Methodist Church.
Dr. Skoog enjoys the continued challenge of practicing internal medicine with all of the exciting advances and changes that have occurred during his career. He has attended twenty national medical courses to help stay current with the continued advances in medicine. He enjoys getting to know his patients well in order to best serve their emotional and physical needs.
