The UAB Sleep-Wake Disorders Center provides outpatient evaluation, testing and treatment of all sleep disorders. The Center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Clinic and testing facilities are both located within the Center. Patients are evaluated in clinic by a sleep professional and scheduled for outpatient diagnostic testing if indicated by the initial evaluation. Tests performed in the Center include Nocturnal Polysomnography, Multiple Sleep Latency Testing and Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing and are performed by trained Polysomnographic Technologists under the supervision of a sleep disorders physician. A home-like environment is provided for the comfort of the patient.
Some, but not all sleep disorders cared for in the Center include sleep apnea, sleep-disordered breathing, narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnolence, parasomnias, nocturnal seizures and restless legs syndrome.
The Center provides evaluation and treatment to patients 15 years of age and older.

We are located on the 7th floor of UAB Highlands. Our office hours are Monday-Thursday from 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Day and night testing are available in the Sleep Lab Monday through Friday. Please call (205) 930-7114 for general information and assistance.

For current patients needing to reschedule sleep study testing, please call (205) 930-7114 or 930-8599. We ask that you notify us of a cancellation 24 hours in advance of your appointment.
After Hours and Emergencies:
The Sleep-Wake Disorders Center is a non-emergent service, therefore patients are advised to contact their primary care physician, emergency room or call 911 for immediate assistance should a medical problem arise. CPAP/BiPAP or other DME (equipment) services are provided by the patient's DME provider 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
What to Bring with You:
When you come for your clinic appointment, please bring your insurance card, drivers license, previous sleep studies reports (if any) and completed health questionnaire that we will mail to you from our office prior to your appointment. Medical information may also be faxed prior to your appointment to (205) 934-6870.
If following your clinic visit it is determined that sleep testing is needed, you will be given written instructions which include what to bring to your sleep study and what to do to prepare for your sleep study. You will also be educated regarding what to expect of your sleep study and shown the sleep lab at the time of your clinic appointment.
Payment Information:
The Center is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, which is a requirement of most insurance providers. Some insurance providers may require a referral or pre-certification for office visits and sleep studies. If you are unsure what your insurance company requires, please contact them in advance of your appointment. Your co-pay will be expected at the time of your visit. Location and Parking:
The UAB Sleep-Wake Disorders Center at UAB Highlands is located directly across the street from the 12th Street South parking deck with free parking available to patients. Enter the UAB Highlands Emergency entrance on 12th Street South and take the elevators immediately on your left to the 7th floor.
