Children's Health (Pediatrics)

UAB physicians provide a variety of pediatric medical and surgical services. Pediatric cardiologists and oncologists have been recognized internationally for cardiovascular and cancer care for children.

In addition, the UAB Sparks Center for Developmental and Learning Disorders offers evaluation and treatment for children with developmental disabilities. Several UAB Health Centers offer family care physicians to treat minor illnesses or injuries in children.

Should hospitalization be required, The Children's Hospital of Alabama provides care and comfort for children and their families.

Pediatric Services include:
  • a multi-disciplinary team approach involving physicians, psychologists, nurses, nutritionalists, and social workers to treat many diseases including cystic fibrosis, childhood cancers, diabetes, muscular dystrophy, asthma, chronic dialysis and immune deficiencies
  • comprehensive medical and rehabilitative services for mentally retarded, developmentally disabled and birth-injured children.
  • a noted diagnostic and treatment center for heart disease in infants, children and adolescents.
  • emergency counseling about poisoning through the Poison Information Center (1-800-292-6678)
